Vancouver Island North Tourism is able to offer a number of services to qualified journalists to assist with research, such as reference material, fact checking, arranging discounted or complimentary accommodations, admission to attractions, assistance with suggestions and/or important connections, and itinerary preparation.

We generally require several weeks advance notice to arrange hosting, however, this may be flexible. Vancouver Island North Tourism does not provide complimentary transportation to and from Canada, although sometimes we are able to provide transportation in the Port Hardy area. We do not provide per diem allowances, nor do we usually provide meals to visiting journalists, but may have flexibility under certain circumstances. We are able to assist in directing journalists to government or regional tourism agencies that may be able to provide additional types of assistance.

The following information is required to assist in hosting a journalist:

  • tentative arrival and departure dates
  • story focus
  • an assignment letter from editor or several clippings from recently published work
  • accommodation preferences
  • any special needs or requests.
